Anthropology of drugs؛Drug use and society؛Ethnography؛Addiction and dependency؛Biocultural approaches؛Drug economies؛Drug policy؛War on drugs؛Criminalization |
| Résumé : |
The Anthropology of Drugs examines drugs not simply as chemical substances or medical problems, but as social, cultural, economic, and political phenomena. The authors argue that drugs cannot be understood outside the cultural contexts in which they are produced, used, regulated, and stigmatized
The central idea of the book is that drugs do not have fixed or universal meanings. What counts as a “drug,” a “medicine,” or a “dangerous substance” varies across societies and historical periods. Therefore, drug use and drug-related problems must be analyzed within broader social structures such as culture, power, inequality, and history |
